Welcome to my Break Free Blog!

So what is this blog all about and just what do I mean when I say 'Break Free'. I'm talking about breaking free of the drudgery of everyday life, of mediocrity, dullness and indifference. So many people plod through life from day to day feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, with no clear purpose and never really getting anywhere or achieving anything.

My life hasn't been like that but it's not been ideal either. I've made many mistakes, some quite severe with consequences resonating through my life for many years after the event. The years are slowly creeping by and I'm not really getting anywhere. I'm still overweight. I'm still unfit. I'm still struggling financially. I've made no significant progress in my career. I have tried and failed at a whole bunch of business ventures and never really tasted 'success'.

Well now I want to break free of all that. I think of it to be rather like running a marathon. Picture if you will a huge marathon run with thousands of competitors. You're not a very good runner so you're placed way out at the back of the crowd. If you stand any chance of doing well in this race (called Life) you first need to develop the personal skills to be able to complete the race. If you can't run very far, or you can only walk, you'll be quickly overtaken by everybody else and left at the back.

Now imagine you've taken that step and you've built up the personal skills you need to succeed, you'll still find yourself stuck amongst thousands of people milling around you, bumping in to you, knocking you off course, getting in your way and perhaps even deliberately sabotaging you. You don't stand a chance until you can break free of that crowd.

You can appreciate the immense struggle and strength of character it must take to break free, especially if you started a long ways back. But consider what would happen if you actually managed it. Suddenly you'd find yourself free of obstacles. You've left everybody behind and now there's only a handful of people running out front with you. There's hardly anyone left to get in your way or knock you off track. Of course there will always people that don't want you to win, they want all the glory for themselves but imagine how much easier it will be once you've broken free of the crowd.

The marathon analogy isn't perfect because in a race there is only one winner and in life everybody can be a winner. But I use it because the idea of being stuck in that suffocating crowd, stifling your every move represents quite clearly how I feel.

This blog is going to be a bit of a dumping ground for the thoughts that I have and a way of allowing me to unjumble the various input I get on a daily basis. Very often I read something or listen to something that stirs something in me but I can't quite get my head around it fully, or it seems to contradict some other idea. I now understand that most ideas need serious thinking time; an incubation period and rarely do they just pop into your head in a perfect form.

So don't be surprised as you read this blog if you find random ramblings that seem to contradict each other! That's just me trying to sort it all out!
